Malaysian Adventure
Looking for an adventure in a different part of the world is not always easy. Having Michael as our guide gave us the opportunity not only to do White Water Rafting, Canyoning & Cave Exploration, but we also got a real sense of Malaysia as a culture.

Gg. Mulu, Niah, Lambir Hill N/P(1996)

The excursion to Sarawak last month was a truly great and memorable experience for me as well as the other MNS members who joined the trip.

On behalf of everyone involved, I wish to place on record our sincere appreciation and thanks to you for a trip that was not only well organized but also most informative, exciting and enjoyable although we had to spend 9 days and nights "in the wild". I realize that it is not easy to lead a group of 14 inexperienced people of different interests and background on a trip back to nature and the basics. Some of them had never been in a cave, crossed a river on foot or slept in the open before! Under your leadership, supported by your capable team of leaders, everyone was well cared for team spirit was maintained throughout the trip. The trip went rather smoothly as all aspects of the trip had been well planned and everyone seemed quite satisfied

The Gunung Mulu N/P and Niah N/P were truly awesome and fascinating. The experience of exploring the largest and most beautiful caves on earth was beyond all my expectations. The climb up Gunung Api to view the pinnacles was really challenging, but the magnificient view was worth every step. The trek through the Lambir Hill National Park with its numerous waterfalls, rich and luxuriant vegetation and wide variety of birds was memorable and refreshing event.

I had not done serious caving before and had apprehensions, but thanks to you encouragement and guidance I gathered the confidence to face the challenges and can now look back with satisfaction on what I had attempted and achieved during the trip. I learnt a great deal about caves and nature, especially the rainforest, on this trip. We benefited from your wide knowledge of the caves, the forest, the flora and fauna and the native people, as you were most willing to share your knowledge with us. In fact, on returning from Mulu, I have decided to take up caving to catch up with all the excitement that I have missed.

Please keep me informed about the caving and 'back to nature' trips that you will be organizing in future. I look forward to joining you on these trips.

Thank you, With regards and best wishes.

Note:- The article was published in the Malaysian Nature Society Newsletter on November 1996.
